J-1 Visa FAQ

The maximum length of stay on a J-1 visa depends on the specific program category, such as Intern, Trainee or Research Scholar. Generally, J-1 visas can be valid for a few months up to five years, depending on the program's maximum possible duration. After the program ends, J-1 visa holders typically receive a 30-day grace period to prepare for departure from the United States.
